Sometimes we have clients call and say “my Botox didn’t work this time” or “My Botox did absolutely nothing” or “I used that other one [Dysport] and nothing happened.” Sometimes it’s suggested that perhaps the Botox or Dysport was old and that’s why it didn’t work. This is absolutely not the case! Here’s the breakdown of why results with Botox or Dysport may vary sometimes.

First, and most importantly, rest assured you will never receive “old” or over-diluted Botox or Dysport with us. We, of course, order our products directly from the manufacturer and store them in proper conditions. And if it is comforting to know, we have roughly 220 Botox or Dysport clients a month, which means those products are ordered about twice a month. Meaning, tha...

This weekend I met up with some friends I hadn’t seen in awhile. Had some wine and dinner and listened to live music. We watched an elderly lady in sweat pants and a jog bra dance solo in front of the band…

But that’s not what this blog is about (although it was very entertaining to watch…Sweet, but also weird).  Anyway! As we listened to the band, my friends asked me what different procedures I have had done at Body Tonic. They said things like: “I cannot believe you are 40! You definitely don’t look it.”

Well, that’s Botox for you! You look younger when you don’t show the lines and wrinkles on your face from a lifetime of squinting, laughing, frowning, and worrying. So what would happen if you slowed down this process greatly? What if you h...

My office is right next to the entrance of our spa. I can see each of the clients as they walk in. Most times I barely look up. But when, out of the corner of my eye, I see a man come in, I always do a double take. I’m not sure why I continue to be surprised to see that men too want to partake in the treatments of a medical spa, because we do indeed have male clients that use a variety of our services. I guess it’s just the stigma of the idea that masculinity and skincare or beauty don’t mix.

But times change. More than 385,000 men in the US got Botox last year, which is an increase of over 300% over the last decade. And apparently the factors that drive men to seek out medical spa treatments, like Botox, are similar to what persuades women...

There is a truly amazing technique using Botox as a treatment for treating oily and acne prone skin. If I hadn’t seen the treatment and results with my own eyes, I am not sure I would believe it!

We all know that Botox is used cosmetically for diminishing lines and wrinkles. When used for that purpose, Botox is injected into the muscle to inhibit certain nerves from firing, resulting in a more relaxed, smoother appearance to treatment area.

Botox can also be injected shallowly into the skin (intradermally) to produce numerous and miraculous effects, including leaving your skin with a beautiful, smooth, almost matte-like finish, as if you just clciked "airbrush" in your photo editor.

Botox, when placed intradermally:

  • Significantly diminis...

You know that gorgeous man you recently broke up with who was perfect in every way except his TOTAL unavailability? And it’s SUPER annoying and sad and makes you angry and heartbroken it didn’t work out…and you go through the what ifs and the whys before sleep and then wake up in the morning with your jaw clenched and aching?

No? Okay, maybe that’s just me.

But hey! There’s plenty of stress to go around. How about that financial stress of a fat mortgage or a loan payment? Or maybe that guilt that you’re not spending enough time with your kids and feeling like a “bad mom” because you didn’t cook amazing dinners last week or you haven’t driven the cheer carpool in awhile? Or maybe you’ve got all of that going on.

You get the picture. Life’s...

My friend Jennifer used to laugh at everything. Everything. Even if I was recounting something that really annoyed me. She would laugh. Sometimes I would think, Does she think it’s stupid what I’m saying? Is it really not important? And then one day I decided, I’m going to try that: I’m going to laugh instead of get annoyed. When the guy cuts me off on Mopac I’m going to laugh at him for being so ridiculous instead of being affected by his anger. When the end of a stressful day is accentuated by a new mess from the dogs, or maybe a temper tantrum from the child….laugh at how crazy life can be instead of fill with anger.

It was a pretty amazing feeling, and that laughter creates its own momentum of happiness and release in your body. When...

Botox for Sad Smiles

Turn that frown upside down. A sad smile, or sad mouth, is where the corners of the lips are constantly pointing downward, looking almost as if they are being pulled down towards the chin. This gives the appearance of someone continually looking as if they are frowning, angry or sad. This effect is caused by certain muscles in the mouth being stronger than the muscles that oppose them. A Botox injection into the depressor muscle in the mouth area (anguli oris), causes it to relax, allowing the corners of the mouth to be gently lifted and upturned. The effect is instant happiness! OK, well maybe not, but within a few days of injection, the corners of the mouth will relax and the overall effect will be a happier looking s...
